Creative Revision Ideas

Please post, for the benefit of your peers, the idea you are proposing for your creative revision. A video? A school curriculum? A commercial? Three sentences including information on:

  1. What your controversy is
  2. What your project is going to be
  3. What audience you are most concerned about reaching
Remember, your edited proposal is due Wednesday, April 20th. The projects (and your five minute presentation to the class) are due starting April 27th, depending on the day you sign up to present.

  1. My controversy explores the obstacles women in sports journalism and broadcasting face that their male counterparts don't have to put up with. So essentially, it is gender inequality in the work environment. To solve this controversy, I think we need to educate children on discrimination so they never develop a bias they usually would learn growing up. So for my project I want to implement social science classes that deal with gender inequality. I will be presenting a power point on the curriculum and books used to teach these classes. The audience I am trying to target will have to be at least 9 years old, considering that that is the age that these classes should start. However, I am trying to reach as many people as I can, including all races, ages, opinions, and professions. The more people involved in the fight against gender inequality, the more impact we'll have on the issue.

  2. My controversy is about what this nation's school system should do with the SAT and the ACT standardized testing. Should we completely emit it from the high school to college process, make it optional for scholarship opportunities, or come up with a new test to replace the SAT and the ACT The project will be going to a high school and take a survey of 10 teachers, and 30-40 seniors and juniors. This process will also educate the students who have not understood what the standardized testing process is for and why it is important. The audience im reaching out to are people with with responsibilities that are willing to put their heads together and come up with a proposal for college board and the entire education realm on how to solve this problem of SAT and ACT uselessness.

  3. My controversial topic is about schools teaching abstinence education. If these classes are taught in schools, what grade level should the course focus on and should this class become a requirement? Many people agree that abstinence should be taught in school while others disagree and think that these classes have no effect whatsoever on a student. My project will be a news report story stating the issue along with an interview with a young mother who agrees abstinence should be taught to kids in school. The audience I am most concerned about are teenagers both guys and girls. Along with parents who have teenagers.

  4. My Creative Revision is an Art Exhibit
I will be making up an art exhibit at my uncles gallery which is called Holy Joe’s Studio at Stone and Speedway, here in Tucson, Arizona. It will comprise of about 10 to 15 Arizona Artists, both known and unknown. The title of this exhibit is, “The Rise and Fall of the ‘Young, Virtuous Virgin,” and it will be of the pressures that life gives those that wish to be pure. I want to show all of the external pressures, such as the media, and that everyone’s beliefs should not be downgraded because of societies ‘wants’. The audience I wish to capture with this artificial exhibit is the youths of any place willing to listen to the images it would present to them. I would like to get both male and females to enjoy these pieces of art and see the messages of virginity, on both sides of the controversy.
I am even doing a painting to bring into class to be the center of my presentation along with a PowerPoint presentation.

  5. my controversy is the medias portrayal of homosexuals. i believe that the media paints a negative light of homosexuals and `only worsens their fight for equality. this problem is a very important issue that must be resolved. i also believe that the problem is because many people are unaware and uneducated about gays so they believe whatever the media tells and shows them.
My project will be creating a short documentary about different stereotypes of Gays and how the media reinforces this. i plan on speaking with the gay frat on campus and recording their persepctive on the issue and also carrying out aa picture survey on campus about which individuals look gay. all these will be compiled into a documentary that i plan to air on NBC's nightline. this documentary is meant to educate the early teen to middle age group about the subtly negative messages of homosexuals in the media that change and control our perceptions.

  6. My controversy is on how NCAA student athletes should be paid for the play they put on the field or court. This ties with the idea of how the NCAA is exploiting these athletes and generating a high revenue off these athletes and they're not getting a cut of the action.

My project is going to be a powerpoint with personal videos of the people I plan to interview. I would like to go into depth by also stating facts that will make the project more credible and persuading. I will ask different people the same questions hoping for many different responses.

I am most concerned by asking question to athletes, regarding the situation. They are the true victims of this problem and they're input is much needed. Another group of people I would like to ask questions is the head administration, since they handle the funds of the school and they make the decisions that shape this school.

  7. My controversy is about SB-107 and illegal immigration and how the problem starts with the mother country. I will state the reasons as to why they leave and a probable solution to improve whatever needs improving with their country. This will hopefully put an end with our immigration problem.

My project is more than likely going to be a powerpoint. With a powerpoint, i will be able to state all that i need to say and be specific. I will add the interviewing sessions as well.

I would like to reach out to everyone who is willing to give me five minutes of their time. I am not really picky about that.

  8. My controversy is about cultural assimilation in pop stars, focusing on Shakira. She had to leave who she originally was to satisfy the media in the U.S and become just like any other American pop star. This process is called cultural assimilation, when one leaves their own culture ideas to get another's. This is something not only pop stars go through when they cross-over to the U.S but also most Latinos/as go through this in one point of their lives.

My project will be a power point presentation explaining what cultural assimilation is. I will interview students and ask them what they think about that, and if they went through such thing in some point in their lives.

I want to reach the Hispanics and make them aware that they do not have to leave their culture ideas, just to fit in with a new culture.

  9. My controversy is about certain laws passed in Arizona that are discriminatory to Mexicans. What I propose to do is something similar to the ABC show “What Would You Do?,” in which actors play out social issues and hidden cameras capture people's reactions to the scenes. My version of it will include different ethnic actors yelling racial slurs at a Mexican actor. The reason I want to use racist people of different ethnicities is to show the different reactions when the bigot is not
stereotypically white. Additionally, I want some of the racial slurs to be actual comments I found on articles about the growing Hispanic population in the United States. If anyone stops by to defend the person being attacked, I want to interview that person and ask why he or she decided to help and how what we can do to draw more awareness to the issue. I also want to interview people who noticed what was going on but did nothing to help. I want one of my actors to be Mexican, to see how people react to someone who is racist against his or her own people. The settings will also be different, taking place at school, a shopping center, and a park. Hopefully this will get them thinking about how we have not progressed on the issue of race and will motivate them to do something about it. My intended audience is anyone who does not realize the laws are discriminatory.

  10. What your controversy is: My controversy is whether cell phone radiation do cause permanent damaging health effects such as cancer.

What your project is going to be: my project is going to be an interview between me and one physics professor who specializes in high energy waves. I will ask him questions regarding how radiation works and his perspective toward cell phone radiation. I might do a survey aiming toward college students and their cell phone usage habits, depending on how clear and helpful my interview is toward my revision.
What audience you are most concerned about reaching: The audiences that I will reach are college students, bring awareness to concerned students toward cell phone radiation and things that can reduce the risks that cell phone can potentially cause.

  11. My controversy was if heavy metal music had a negative impact. How does one find a solution to this? In order to prove that it does have an effect on people, I thought of using a series experimentation processes. The first I would do, is select a group of people willing to participate in my survey/experiment (most likely some friends).
Then go on to make them listen various samples of music and make them fill out a questionnaire after each sample of music. The questions would go along the lines of how it made them feel, did it make them angry, sad, etc. I would do this, in order to see if heavy metal music has the most negative effect on people.
I will include both males and females in my study, due to the fact that the research I studied says that males listening to heavy metal music act more recklessly than females. I would then go on to ask if they like heavy metal and if they have committed any crimes, or acted recklessly in the past 2 years.
I will also film their reactions

  12. My controversey is how the media’s responsibile for entailing false ideal images of women on the telvision causing low self-esteem within young girls. For my proposal I will be presenting techniques and solutions to adjust the effects of the media causing low self-esteem towards teenage females. I plan to ask questions and host a survey to college and high school students asking if the media is the prime reason for low self-esteem within teenage girls.

  13. My controversy is Eminem's lyrics. Many argue that Eminem's lyrics are too violent or too homophobic.

For my proposal I will interview people asking them various questions containing art, personas, and past controversial music artists (e.g Elvis Presley and the Beatles. The purpose - to show that Eminem's music is his art form and he tells stories through the eyes and words of his persona. His music should be taken as art and not by reflecting any crude behavior in Eminem's personal morals, etc.

I also plan on asking college and high school students if their parents allowed them to listen to music explicit lyrics as children.

  14. My controversy is that how people will treat an athlete if they ever found out that he was gay. The proposal im trying to make is that I will ask people question on there view on gay athletes then i will ask athletes on what there reaction would be if they had a gay athlete. From those answers i will show that people still have a homophobia and it is not a time for a gay athlete yet. My main audience of people that play sports and want to come out the closet but still dont know if there would be consequence.

  15. My controversy is about how obesity rates have raised immensely over the past few years blaming it on the fast food restaurants. What we sometimes do not think about could be also the lack of physical activities which also plays a major role in staying healthy. My project will consist of a demo comparing different objects to what you would have within your own body demonstrating how important it is to staying healthy. This is mainly to impact the audience from elementary kids because that is mostly where obesity starts developing more often at such a young age.

  16. My controversy has to do with improvement of football and its equipment for the safety of the player's lives longer down the road. For my project I envision myself talking to some of my friends that play football on the UA team. I will ask them so questions beginning with the death of Dave Duerson then talking abouthow they feel about what happened to him and is there anything that you think could change the result of his life from football? Once I get the participants I will make it for a Toyota ad for their Toyota good ideas project. My audience will be investors of football, equipment makers, and the players as well as the watchers of the games.

  17. My controversy is about how childhood obesity is becoming a problem in the US. Children ages 6-11 are becoming more obese at such a young age and are already being diagnosed with diabetes type 2.
My project is going to be seeing two sides of the story with an interview with a pediatrician and a parent who happens to have an obese child. And see what changes could be made in the child's life.
My audience is more to the parents who have children who are over weight or obese and even schools to help their children change their weight and risks from obesity.

  18. My controversy has to do with the current shooting that happened at the border and whether it was right for border patrols to shoot him.
For my creative project, I plan to do something similar to what the border looks like, with posters kind of like the ones that have been up from recent protests. Also an interview with the victim's widowed young wife.
My audience would be a group of people that know about SB-1070, and want to make a difference in Arizona.

  19. My controversy is whether the illuminati really trying to take over the world and if so is it evil and/ satanic. For my project I have two idea, one to interview people ask them question about the illuminati and show them videos and see if the believe or disbelieve whatever the case maybe we could have a good talk/interview of the illuminati. Two, go around school throwing up the illuminati hand signs, hoping for some one to see me and stop me to ask me what is that? Or isn’t that the illuminati stuff? I am most concern of reaching out to the people who don’t believe or want to know more and people that may know more than I do, because that would be great.

  20. My controversy deals with the hope that Obama had given the American people as President of the United States of America. Unfortunately, many Americans do not believe that he has done much because they either have not heard of what he has actually done for the country. A possibility that causes this is that not everyone has access to media. Also, Americans do not understand the boundaries of the powers of an American President. To appropriately address this issue, I believe that Americans should be more educated in politics. One doesn't necessarily need to submerge themselves in the world of politics to know the good and the bad. Just a small amount of background knowledge would be enough. It is sad that many Americans think that Obama just completely lied to his people, but again, the truth is, he has a limited amount of power even as president.

I am most interested in reaching poeple of my generation like college students.

  23. My controversy is the debate between natural, relaxed, or weaved hair. My project will be a combination of a hair presentation with commentary of my peers via interview or facebook.I want to to open awareness and let people know that this shouldnt be a taboo subject but rather a self love movement. I want to present this to all races and hair types.

  24. My controversy is the racial aspect of the death penalty (does the criminal justice system execute inmates on death row based on their race?). For my project I'm going to create a facebook page which will display information on the death penalty (capital punishment) as well as art(if I can find any) by various artists that relate to my topic and I may show off my art skills in doing so as well. I'm choosing to do a facebook page because everyone is on it and, just above twitter, it is the main resource as far as companies getting feed back on their products. I'm trying to reach everyone on facebook with my controversy. I'll be satisfied if only 10 of the 50 million people on the social network learns something from my page.

  25. My controversy is no salary cap in Major League Baseball. This controversy of MLB not having a salary cap has been out in the air for quite a few years but has not yet been established. People talk about it and how much inequality MLB has due to no salary cap. In 2009 when the New York Yankees won the World serious was when the controversy was heard more throughout the news. Critics, economists and the public argued and continue to argue that the team effectively “bought” the championship. My project will be to create a survey that will consist of a couple questions. I will use a website (www.facebook.com) there I will create a page where it will have the survey. The reason that I decided to use Facebook is because people now a day’s tend to be on the web more than anything else. I can contact most of my family and friends through the web. I will then ask them if they could help me out with my English project by answering a couple of questions. The audience that I am most concerned about reaching are those who actually know about the controversy of MLB not having a salary cap and if establishing one would do any good.

  26. My controversy is whether school systems should teach abstinence or methods of contraception as their form of sexual education! My plan is to interview approximately 20-25 random college students on camera and make sort of a collage documentary to hear their responses. I will ask them which form they prefer and they would prefer for their future children and why. Also, I will make a survey on facebook asking the same question and show my results in class. My controversy truly effects every American's sexuality but it mostly effects middle schoolers because they are the ones being taught sexual education.

  27. My controversy is on how society views female sexual expression and whether or not women should be free to dress and speak as they please or if by doing so, women would be under minding all it was that feminist have worked towards. I wan tot focus specifically on if society allows certain females of a particular race to be more sexually expressive than others.

My targeted audience are those who identify as young black females and those who are also youthful but not necessarily black or female. I think I need to target males of all racial backgrounds as well females around the 13-27 age group because I feel that this is the age- range where most people start acting out their thoughts/stereotypes they have involving other racial groups.

I plan to go to Phoenix this weekend or the next and physically test out how people react to individuals of a particular race style of dress. I will have an African-American female, probably myself, go out in three different outfits. First I will be dressed modestly, then I will be dressed in a slutty attire. I will also have two of my good friends from high school (Caucasian, Mexican American) join me in my social experiment. They too will have two sets of clothing and we will all present ourselves at the same places. We will go to these locations within twenty minutes of each other but not together. Hopefully having visited the same places around the same time will serve as a control for our experiment. I am still thinking up locations on where to go. I don't want to go to too general of a location like Wal-Mart because quite frankly nobody gives a flying who as to how one dresses in that store. I also don't want to go to a McDonald's either because I feel that we would not get any real data there. The location picked must be neutral like a mall or a Starbucks.

  28. The controversy is regarding the Westboro Baptist Church's activities as well as their exploitation of the Bible. For my creative revision, I want to focus on the Supreme Court ruling that allowed the church to protest against gay rights outside a fallen soldier's funeral.
I would want to create an commercial inspired by a commercial made by the UK based organization, “Kicking It Out”. The organization fights to stop racism and homophobia during soccer matches. In one of their commercials promoting anti-homophobia, they show a man going through his day-to-day activities. However, with every person that he comes into contact with, he shouts offensive slurs, such as faggot or bender. At the end of the commercial, the man is in a lift with other men and begins to sing a homophobic song. The scene quickly cuts to the same man at a soccer match finishing the chant.
For my commercial, I want to have the setting be at a funeral of a fallen soldier. As the priest is commenting on the soldier's life, there are people in the audience that are shouting offense terms, like gay, homo, and fag. The commercial would then cut to the Westboro Baptist Church protesting and shouting similar chants.
I would want to air this commercial on major news television shows, such as ABC, CNN, and Fox. I have found that stories regarding the Westboro Baptist Church are primarily shown on such major organizations. While the commercial would e available to the entire American public, its main target would be those who supported the Supreme Court ruling in the church's favor. I want to bring to life the idea that the Westboro Baptist Church's protesting at such private events, like funerals, is unacceptable and offensive.

  29. My controversial topic is on an iPad and iPhone app game, "Smuggle Truck: Operation Immigration". How the game portrays illegal immigrants are portrayed in this game. My project is to get reviews on either Facebook and other people I know who have gone through coming across the border illegally. I will portray the messages of both what people think and what other people have experienced colliding them together. The audience I plan to target is to target the people who are seeing differently and are against illegal immigrants. Letting them see, the conditions they are in and what most people may say.

    What your controversy is
    2. I made a purse that mirrors my view on my controversy. I will explain the concept of my purse to people, gauge their influence by rap music and ask them about this view.
    3. I first thought I should target women, but now I feel like I should ask boys and girls on campus.

  31. My controversy is about how skinny models in fast food commercials make people eat even more by hiding the real consequences of fast food.
I'm taking a photo of myself eating fast food and then photoshop it so I look bigger. Then I will ask if people wanted to eat the food after seeing the skinny picture and then the other one.
I'm going to target college students because their eating style is the most unhealthy compared to other age groups since they don't have that much of an access to healthy food.

  32. My controversy explores the issue of the medias influence on our perception of others. My research will invovle a series of surveys in which I will query my friends using facebook.com and I will collect that data and compare it to data that I collect from random people that I pass on the street. I would for the final product to be somewhat of a surprise so I wont spill too many of the beans. :D But I would like to use my findings to connect to the college age group around 18-23.

  33. My controversy discusses the advantages and disadvantages of both homeschooling and public schooling. The controversy is deciding which type of education has the greater overall benefit for students. The project is going to be surveying the public, as they have been educated (either by public schooling and homeschooling). The survey will take place in public, as well as online through the social networking site, FaceBook. I will ask them which type of education they prefer and their reasons for that preference. The goal is receive a real life statistic and to share with others what each education has to offer. The audience I am most concerned about reaching is parents because they have the ultimate decision to send their children to public school or to keep them home schooled.
